Reviews for The Wells Tavern
Food Critique
Booking is highly recommended as it is very popular.
Went to this place after a long walk at Hampstead Heath. The Sunday roast is amazing, perfectly cooked, juicy and tender at very reasonable price with lots of vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Service is excellent, the manager and staff are very polite. We were seated straight away and drinks were served soon after we ordered.

We got lucky enough to get the last free table they had for the evening. With that said, make a reservation! They fill up fast. Good service, and the food was great! Great atmosphere. Looked like they get a lot of repeat/ locals who come in. We ordered an onglet steak and the bangers and mash. Would definitely come back again.

The place it’s cosy and well decorated. It has many inside seats but it’s better to reserve a table especially weekends because it gets really busy! There are few tables outside too. The staff is lovely, attentive and friendly. We loved all the burgers we tried, the food was well cooked and made with care. It’s a little gem between the beautiful Hampstead Heath park and Hampstead village, a must try if you are walking around on a lazy Sunday

This is very much a gastropub, particularly at the weekends. If you have visited for just a drink your options are primarily out front or to hope for the very limited space at the bar.
Saying that, my pint of Glowfly was very good and very reasonably priced for the area. The staff were also very professional and welcoming.
For me, though, it needs to retain more space for those who just fancy a pint but don’t want to sit outside in January!

The Wells Tavern is one of Hampstead’s best gastro pubs offering all that is needed to be a neighbourhood favourite including a great location, outside seating with heaters and large canopies, good service, tasty food and two floors offering formal and informal dinning. The prices are on the high end when compared to other areas of town, but it is part of the “Hampstead premium”.
The ground floor is a traditional bar with tables, sofas and all around dog friendliness. The food menu includes plates of chorizo with red pepper and gherkins, cod fishcakes, burgers and grilled tuna steak. Tables outside are at a premium when the sun shines. The upstairs is made up of three small dining rooms, with a more formal menu and setting. The scallops (£14.50) part of the starter menu where fresh and full of flavour, while the ribeye steak (£29.50) was tasty. The portion of chips could be larger but they were perfectly cooked. The duck leg (£19.85) was cooked perfectly.A great spot for drinks, a quick bite to eat or a more formal meal if you do not mind the premium prices.

Date of visit. 30/11/22
The manager was very welcoming and found our booking in seconds. Was given the table that I had requested (table 1 by the window) The service was excellent considering there were only two servers and it was fairly busy for a Wednesday evening. The menu had about 6 choices for each course which is always a good sign. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. We had 3 courses each, my companion had 2 large glasses of Merlot and a double G&T. I had 2 soft drinks and a double espresso. Our whole meal cost just over £140, with service. Very reasonable considering the 3 courses, drinks and location. Went the week before and the experience was equally as good! So consistent. Looking forward to my next visit.

Stumbled upon this place on a walk around Hampstead … very expensive lunch but hey – it’s Hampstead. Memorable in part for being the only menu I’ve ever seen that includes dog food (for a diner’s furry companion, just to be clear), in small and large servings, no less. The watermelon feta salad was excellent.

Incredibile place we found out in Hampstead, located in the best area of the neighborhood, close to amazing houses.
The food was very good, my daughter and I took a few snacks before the main course (green olives and bread with oil and vinager) and then she had the watermelon salad and I had Cumberland sausages, with a wonderful draught IPA, everything was perfect.
The staff was very friendly, the manager found a place for us even if we didn’t booked (it was a Friday night) and we waited only 10 minutes outside having a drink.
Definitely our favorite place in Hampstead so far.

We stopped here after taking a walk through the Hampstead Heath. Interesting building to be sure from the outside and also on the inside. They weren’t quite yet open so we sat down outside to wait at their tables. It was a bit chilly that day and someone came out and asked if we had a reservation we said yes and they turned on the overhead heaters for us to keep us warm while we waited. A few minutes later they were open and they brought us in to our table upstairs. Decor was gorgeous, the service from the waitress we had was not the fastest however the food made up for any drawback but we might have experienced at the open. We were a table of five seated at a table of four and we each had something different to order. Everyone was making great comments about how delicious the food was and how well it was presented. I would say if you’re in a rush this may not be the place to go, however if you are looking for a great meal with a great day core this is definitely terrific option.

I’ve never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant or pub before. Upon our arrival this Friday afternoon, there were four free tables outside and a handful of free tables inside. When I asked the manager if they had available tables, he was quick to tell me that all were booked and didn’t even attempt to check when one might become available. After passing by 1.5 hours later, the same tables were still empty outside. This isn’t the first time this has happened at The Wells Tavern. It’s as if they don’t want or need business.
As a local, I would instead recommend The Holly Bush, The Flask, or The Horseshoe – all of which have staff who are more than happy to serve and accommodate their guests.
