I wish I had read the reviews on here prior to buying from this place.
I bought a pair of sunglasses for £395.00 from the Beauchamp Place shop on Sunday 3/4/22.
On Monday 4/4/22, I returned to the shop asking for a refund, as my partner had bought me a very similar pair of sunglasses for my birthday in the meantime.
The shop assistant informed me that she could only give me a voucher valid for 1 year for the same value.
I replied that I wished to receive a full refund to my bank account and asked for the business owner’s e-mail address and name, so that I could write a complaint. The shop assistant gave me an e-mail address, but not the owner’s name.
I proceeded to write two e-mails to the owner’s e-mail address asking for a full refund – one on 4/4 and one on 5/4.
I also wrote a Twitter post relaying my experience – which I informed the owner of in my e-mails.
On Tuesday 5/4 pm, I phoned the Beauchamp Place shop again to ask for a response to my two e-mails.
About 5pm on that Tuesday 5/4, I got a phone call from the same sales assistant that had served me on Sunday 3/4 – he repeated that they could not give a full refund for customers changing their mind, due to their Returns Policy. He offered again a voucher, this time extending the duration to 5 years.
I replied that I wasn’t made aware of the policy before buying the item, and that it is unusual for a business not to give a full refund if the item is returned shortly after purchase, is not of an intimate-wear type, is returned with the original receipt and in its original condition.
The shop assistant replied that their refund policy was posted on the shop wall – to which I replied that I had not seen it and that I had not been made aware of it ahead of making the purchase – and therefore I insisted that I wished to receive a full refund.
The sales assistant was pleasant and helpful on the day he sold me the glasses and also when he called me on the phone, but he should have made me aware of the Arthur Morrice Opticians returns policy before I handed over my credit card.
I have phoned Citizens Advice and I am aware that Consumer Rights law states that if a customer buys goods within the shop premises, the business is not obliged to give the customer a full refund unless the goods are faulty.
However, I also believe that in standard business practice, it is unusual for businesses not to give customers full refunds when they change their mind, unless the item is of a particularly intimate nature (eg. underwear), provided the goods are unused, in the same condition that the customer purchased them in and in the original packaging.
At this point, I wrote again to the business e-mail address later on in the evening of 5/4, thanked them for arranging for the original shop assistant to phone me, and repeated that they should give me a full refund as I had not been informed of the returns policy before purchase.
Someone who didn’t give a name and surname replied to my e-mail around 6mp on 5/4 in a tone that I found bullish and aggressive, copying their legal team on the e-mail.
I felt this was an attempt at intimidating me, given the owner probably didn’t like that I posted my complaint on Twitter, for future potential customers to see!
I have since downloaded their Refund Policy from their website – it doesn’t state anywhere that they don’t give refunds if customers change their mind.
I have also now found the owner’s details on Companies House, and will be writing to her registered office address to complain in relation to the poor customer service received.
Given the owner’s aggressive tone on their e-mail response to me and the other negative reviews on here, I doubt that will make a difference.
Although the shop floor team are pleasant, they should be informing customers of their refund policy ahead of purchases.
Given the appalling customer service received from the owner of this business – I will obviously never buy from this business again.

They have a good selection of designer frames.
My little one broke my Dita frames just after a year – their charge to repair them was £140 I have found another company to do it for £25. Out of warranty.
Their charge to return ship my glasses is £12.
I was recently considering buying myself another pair of designer frames from this shop but I feel let down. The person who originally served me in their Chelsea shop (that has now closed) was lovely but was telling me that Dita have a lifetime repair policy – clearly not the case.
I am not wowed by their after service care or charges and this hence the rating. Nice shop and nice people working there but over the top expensive when you consider alternatives for repair. When you pay over £300 for a pair of sunglasses it would be nice to think that there is good support. Not my experience.

While I am traveling in London, the frame of my glasses went out of shape for a couple of days which was painful and annoying. I stopped by this shop hoping for getting a repair. The staff was very friendly and helped adjust the frame under 5 minutes with no charge. I am impressed by their great service and hospitality. They offered the help for free even though I didn’t get the glasses here.

This company lie and cannot be trusted
I was mis-sold my first pair of optical glasses. They have 2 attempts to rectify my reading glasses, that make me feel sick and dizzy, and unable wear the very expensive glasses I purchased, only to be told by 2 other opticians that the frames I’ve been sold are sunglasses frames and too big for optical. They do not give receipts, and claim they have a no refund policy, which is displayed nowhere. I have tried numerous times to resolve a refund with the company, who are refusing to do so. In my opinion this is a company not to deal with, and avoid. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY TELL YOU. They are currently in possession of both my money and glasses, which I returned, and are still refusing to help, I am now handing over to the credit card company for them to chase, absolutely disgusting, nice way to blow £600 if your feeling flush.

“Disgusting despicable and downright rude service .”
I originally brought a pair of chrome hearts sunglasses from their Hampstead store and was served by a very decent and helpful sales person called Panav . Those sunglasses were excellent quality and were exceptionally expensive, but I don’t regret purchasing them as they really are works of art and handmade to the highest standards .
The problem arose when some years later I had an eye test at their Knightsbridge store and asked for Arthur Maurice to put new lenses in my normal glasses .
I happily paid for the eye test and the price of the lenses , but every time there after I wore those glasses my eyes were stinging and hurting as they messed up the prescription.
Several weeks later , I called them to complain and said I would happily pay for another test and travel up a good hour from where I live , but expected something be done about the lenses which were obviously not made to the correct prescription .
All seemed well and the lady booked me in , but just 24 hours later a colleague called me with the following communication “hello sir , is that …….. , yes it is , well I’m phoning about your eye test due to take place tomorrow , oh yes are you confirming it , well no actually I’ve been told to call you to advise that we as a company have made the decision as indeed we are entitled to , to refuse to service you any longer as we feel we are not expert enough to help you with the right prescription for your vision . We recommend either Harrods or selfridges that I’m sure can help you “
To that I just said “yes I agree you are entitled to decline servicing a customer so do whatever the hell you like”
Basically for a company to talk like that to a customer is pathetic , rude and damn right unprofessional , especially at the level they are pitching themselves to be . No apology was ever offered , no further communications were ever received .
I am now a very happy client of Hodds Barnes Dickens in Holborn who have staff that are polite , give incredible service , sell amazing glasses including chrome hearts and what’s more my eyes don’t sting anymore , so they clearly give me the right prescription !!!.
As for Arthur Maurice opticians , good luck in fleecing your wealthy and carefree Knightsbridge folk , but for real connoisseurs I recommend you a genuine and professional establishment.
