As many of our businesses are aware, the Mayor of London will be introducing the Ultra-Low Emission Zone this April. The ULEZ will be in place in central London from 8 April 2019 in the same area as the Congestion Charge. Most vehicles including cars and vans will need to meet new, tighter exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or be liable for a daily charge to drive within the ULEZ area.
You can pay the ULEZ daily charge from 8 April 2019. It will be:
A daily charge runs from midnight to midnight. If you drive within the ULEZ area across two days, for example before midnight and after midnight, you will be liable to pay two daily charges if your vehicle doesn’t meet the ULEZ standards.
While the ULEZ from April will only apply within the current congestion charge zone from 25 October 2021 the area will expand to the inner London area bounded by the North and South Circular roads.
The Mayor has also introduced the Van Scrappage Scheme.
Microbusinesses and charities can choose from a range of ‘scrap for cash’ options and apply for the scheme online at www.tfl.gov.uk/scrappage-scheme. Organisations eligible for the £23 million scheme need to be either a microbusiness or charity as defined below:
