Milein Cosman

Milein Cosman and Kyffin Williams studied together at the Slade School of Fine Art in the early 1940s, when it was evacuated to Oxford.

An illustrated talk by Ines Schlenker.

Milein Cosman’s portraits have been collected by the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, and V&A.  She knew most of the celebrated artists, dancers and musicians of the postwar period and had an extraordinary ability to capture them “in flight”. She lived in Willow Road and Frognal Gardens. She met Kyffin Williams at the Slade, he then taught at Highgate School and became a Royal Academician, and they had a lifelong friendship.

Dr Schlenker is an independent art historian, an expert on emigre art, and Cosman’s  biographer.
